Mandate To enhance and monitor the implementation of gender equality rules in Croatia.
Membership The Committee has 11 members, plus a President and Vice-President (13 members in total). They are elected according to party affiliation. Members begin their duties on the date when the parliament is constituted and complete them when their mandate expires. The Committee has three appointed members (3 women) from among the ranks of non-governmental organizations, scientific and professional institutions in the field of the promotion of gender equality and the protection of human rights. Composition by sex: 3 men (23%), 10 women (77%)
Working methods The Committee discusses legal proposals and occasionally organizes round tables and specialist meetings that are not part of the Assembly's agenda.
Relations with other parliamentary bodies The Committee cooperates with all working bodies, and sometimes organizes joint meetings.
Relations with external bodies The Committee cooperates with the Ombudswoman for Gender Equality and with representatives of the government and of non-governmental organizations, inviting them to its meetings. In the Republic of Croatia there is the Ombudswoman for Gender Equality, the Office for Gender Equality (within the executive) and the Committee on Gender Equality (within the legislature). The goal of all of these bodies is to strengthen and monitor implementation of the gender equality policy.
Subjects dealt with The Committee, as a rule, discusses subjects that are on the agenda of the Plenary Session. However, it also discusses topics that are not on the agenda of the Plenary Session, such as mobbing, domestic violence against women and gender equality in general.
